Apple issues beta 3 for iOS 17.1, watchOS 10.1, macOS Sonoma 14.1

Next round of beta versions is available for iOS/iPadOS 17.1, watchOS 10.1, macOS Sonoma 14.1. Xcode did not get any new beta versions yet. Neither was visionOS beta updated. tvOS 17.1 remains on beta 2 too.

watchOS 10.1 beta seem to cause battery draining issue on connected iPhone.

iOS 17.1 beta 3 improves Action Button behavior while kept in the pocket. iOS 17.1 will also fix radiation levels for iPhone 12 in France (Apple also published an article explaining regulator complaints).

Another addition is support for full transaction history on first US bank – Discover (following UK banks).

Some users report Wallet app crashing in this beta.

Apple reports Q1 2022 FY results

During the investor call, Apple reported record-setting results with 11% revenue growth, iPhone taking significant growth in various markets.

Apple estimates 1.8 billion active devices across the world. Might cross 2 billion this year. This includes iPhones, iPads, iPod Touches, Apple Watches, Macs and Apple TVs. Individual breakdown for device types was not given though.

Mac sales grew 25% YoY (mostly Apple Silicon), while iPad sales went down 14%. Notably, services show significant grow – 24% YoY.

Apple expects supply chain constraints to be improved in spring.

Topic of "metaverse" was discussed during investor call, no specific details was given though. Tim Cook mentioned that Apple always explores new opportunities and provided estimates on ARKit apps in App Store.

Apple sets up Apple’s Small Developer Assistance Fund

During court hearings Apple agrees to create Small Developer Assistance Fund which provides financial aid for developers in US.

Eligible developers will be able to receive a payment between $250 and $30,000 from Apple depending on their total App Store earnings between June 4, 2015 and April 26, 2021, as outlined in the chart below from the settlement filing.
