iOS 17.2 with Journal app and other platforms enter beta testing

Apple launches first beta for iOS/iPadOS 17.2, macOS Sonoma 14.2, watchOS 10.2, tvOS 17.2. Xcode 15.2 beta is also available.

Xcode 15.1 beta 2 contains visionOS SDK 1.0 beta 4.

New betas bring Contact Key Verification to iMessage. Also Journal app and Journaling Suggestion API is now available. Music app gets collaborative playlists feature.

tvOS beta brings new navigation to TV app.

Apple to release Final Cut Pro and Logic Pro for iPad in May

Apple announces that it brings Final Cut Pro and Logic Pro apps to iPad. These apps will require iPads with Apple M1 chip or better to work.

Additionally, these apps will switch to subscription model with $4.99 per month or $49.99 per year plans. These apps will be priced independently from Mac apps for now. Those who purchased Mac apps will have to buy iPad apps separately.

Apple also did not announce changes in pricing for Mac apps.

iPad versions of the apps have touch tailored interface but also support keyboard and trackpads.

As a note to professionals – pro workflows usually require plugins which might not be available for iPad versions of the apps.

Apps will be available starting May 23, 2023.

Spotify to use health data to improve playlists

Spotify is now working on Apple Health integration in their app to improve playlist quality. Spotify's approach is find songs that motivate users and improve their fitness results.

Using workout and health data might help improving communication with users and adjust features if app could affect user's workout performance or health in general (like, sleep, heart rate and so on).

Apple updates App Store Review Guidelines

Apple publishes updates to App Store Review Guidelines. This time updates cover multiple areas:

  • Clarify how to provide access to app features for review;
  • Add details on prohibited apps;
  • Clarify Matter support requirements;
  • Clarify NFT and cryptocurrency usage;
  • Allow advertisement management apps not to use In-app purchases;
  • Clarify Apple Music usage within apps.

Apple also notified developers of these changes via email.
