Apple announces M4 chip, new iPad Air, iPad Pro and Apple Pencil Pro

During the Let loose Special Event Apple made couple of announcements.

M4

M4 will currently be available only in iPad Pro. Chip supports up to 10 CPU cores with 4 efficiency and 6 performance cores. GPU has 10 cores. Updates included new Neural Engine cores. Media Engine gets AV1 hardware acceleration.

Apple claims that M4 could deliver M2 performance with half of energy use.

iPad Air

New iPad Air has M2 chip, new landscape FaceTime camera position. New iPad Air supports either Apple Pencil USB-C or new Apple Pencil Pro. iPad Air now comes in 11" and 13" configurations and four colors.

iPad Air supports WiFi 6E and 5G.

iPad Pro

iPad Pro now has OLED screen – Ultra Retina XDR – with brightness of 1000 nits for SDR and HDR content with peak HDR brightness up to 1600 nits. New iPad Pro also got landscape camera position and also supports either Apple Pencil USB-C or Apple Pencil Pro. For higher storage tiers Apple also offers nano-textured glass option to reduce glare effects.

New iPad Pro displays support lower refresh rates, but lack always-on display mode.

iPad Pro is now powered by M4 chip. USB-C ports supports Thunderbolt 3 and USB 4 modes. iPad Pro supports WiFi 6E and 5G.

RAM depends on storage size, 1TB model gets 16GB and others get 8GB.

Apple Pencil Pro and Magic Keyboard

New Apple Pencil Pro has sensors for squeeze to trigger context menu, rotation to adjust brush position and haptic feedback. Apple Pencil Pro now supports Find My.

Both new iPad Air and iPad Pro support new Apple Pencil Pro.

New Magic Keyboard now has function keys allowing easier use in Universal Control environment.

Apple also updated its Final Cut Pro and Logic Pro apps on both Mac and iPad.
